“Write the Future” Nike World Cup Ad

With the 2010 FIFA World Cup less than a month away, I just happened to come across this exciting new Ad Spot from Nike. Easily one of the most gorgeous ads I’ve seen in recent times, and get me really excited for the World Cup this year. Oh, I should note, this is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, for those who don’t know who that is, he’s the dude who directed the “Death Trilogy” (Amores Perros, 21 Grams & Babel) which have all gotten tons of Oscar nominations over the past years.

The ad features several football legends Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo (only he gets a link cause he’s a sexy sexy man), Wayne Rooney & Landon Donovan and some guest appearances by LA Lakers’ star Kobe Bryant, Roger Federer and Homer Simpson.

If you can, I urge you to check this out in HD, it looks amazing.

‘Street Fighter-Legacy’ a Streetlight Films production, co-directed by Joey Ansah and Owen Trevor, produced by Jacqueline Quella and stars Jon Foo as Ryu and Christian Howard as Ken.

‘StreetFighter-Legacy’ a liveaction short film fan project, based on the popular Capcom gaming franchise: Street Fighter. Officially endorsed by Capcom

StreetFighter Legacy has been a labour of love and passion project for its creator, Joey Ansah, who not only conceived and pitched the project, but also co-directed, co-wrote and choreographed it, alongside cameo’ing in the film. Collaborating, creative partner and long time friend Christian Howard was part of the project from day one, co-writing the script and story elements, as well as further down the line, storyboarding the film, being assistant fight choreographer and most importantly playing Ken Masters.

Streetlight repped Australian Director Owen Trevor came onboard to co-direct the film. His experience and style carried forward from shooting on 3 series of the acclaimed ‘Top Gear’ have really been an asset to the project and given it a strong visual flair.

You know what I hate…fucking movies with animals. Sure I’m not a huge pet person, so you could argue that I already have a bias against animal related movies. But aside from that I don’t understand how people actually enjoy movies that feature some type of animal as the center of the film. Take Marley & Me for example, this movie annoyed the hell out of me. Sure the dog is cute as hell, but what human in their right mind would ever have a relationship with an animal like that. Only thing I can think of are folks with no actual social life and use their pets as a substitute. But to be honest, even Marley & Me isn’t as bad as live-action films that feature talking animals…OMFG. This is the worst type of bullshit film ever. Yes I’m looking at you Beverly Hills Chihuahua, you stupid bitch. How the fuck in the world could the people not realize that the animals are doing some crazy ass shit even the humans can’t do. Also…look at the damn slogan for that movie, like seriously “50% Warrior, 50% Lover, 100% Chihuahua”…all equals to 200% fucking bullshit, learn to do some math people. I don’t understand how the hell studios think shit like that is appealing at all, what’s worst of all…these retarded films are actually paying out. So I shouldn’t really blame the studios because all they care about is money, but rather, blame the dumb-ass rednecks, yes the rednecks and all their inbreds, because they are the only retards capable of watching nonsense like that and enjoying it. When I really look at it…the only movies that should feature animals are fully animated flicks, because they at least have some sort of likable quality to them, for example Up or Bolt (both great movies).

Earlier this week, one of the better animated films this year was released out on DVD and Blu-Ray. Which is of coarse, the stop-motion masterpiece that is Fantastic Mr. Fox. This movie follows the story of Mr. Fox (George Clooney) who once was a known swindler, until he settled down & started a family with Mrs. Fox (Meryl Streep). Like a good father, he has to change his old ways for the safety of his family, but Mr. Fox just can’t let go of his old ways and want’s to go on one last raid, something big and wild and the hijinks ensues. Anyways…I thought, in order to get some of you guys to check out this film I’d post some interesting artworks + video I found around the net.

Throughout the ages, the world has seen many kinds of warriors. Some prominent examples include ninjas, assassins, ninja assassins(yuck), mercenaries, soldiers, knights, and Spartans. However, out of all the types of warriors, the one with the most cinematic intrigue is undoubtedly the samurai. Something about oriental guys performing harakiris on themselves really seems to get us off. That’s why we here at Waterfail have recently been pondering the question:

What is the greatest samurai movie ever made?
There are some films that easily come to mind…

The Last Samurai(2003) dir. Zwick, Edward

Nominated for 4 Academy Awards, this gem of a film features one of Tom Cruise’s finest performances.

Seven Samurai(1954) dir. Kurosawa, Akira

Nominated for 2 Academy Awards; the highest rated samurai movie on The Internet Movie Database, Seven Samurai is considered the first(and perhaps the greatest) modern action film.

Ninja Scroll(1993) dir. Kawajiri, Yoshiaki; Seymour, Kevin

A favorite among Japanese anime fans, Ninja Scroll follows a rogue samurai warrior named Jubei on his quest to exterminate members of a sadistic clan of ninjas.

Le Samourai(1967) dir. Melville, Jean-Pierre

Favorite movie of Hong Kong director Johnnie To; the movie John Woo refers to as a nearly perfect film, Le Samourai is a masterful blend of French stylistic violence and the samurai philosophy.

So there you have it folks… We have decided once and for all that The Last Samurai is the greatest samurai movie of all time.

Travolta Power!

In recent years Google has already found a way to takeover the online video sharing market with the acquisition of YouTube in late 2006. Now it seems they want to take it a little further with a new “product” from TestTube (similar to Google Labs) called YouTube Disco. Over the last few years, more and more people have been relying on Last.Fm and Pandora for their online music, and it would seem Google wants a piece of the pie.

Like Pandora, Disco has their own discovery tool, but it’s hard to tell how they actually recommend new music for the user. Nonetheless, the recommendation tool worked quite well, and just from 1 search I was able to find some new artists who I’ve never heard of. The best part about Disco is the ability to create your own playlist of videos, which is something these other sites can’t do that well. One thing that seemed apparent, YouTube is really flushing out their Vevo content through Disco. This means, a lot of the videos will be available only in Canada and USA.
